The project “Same, same, but different“ aims to develop communication between northern Latvian and southern Estonian ethnomusic and cultural heritage communities. Two heritage festival organisers will share experience, cooperate and learn new skills to organise better quality events. Activities will involve participants from Latvia and Estonia.
The project brings together two cultural life organizers – Valmiermuiža Cultural Society with Valmiermuiža Ethnographic Festival (Latvia) and NGO Haki Helü Aigu Om! Festival (Estonia) – to strengthen the connection between contemporary cultural heritage festivals and the people who create them. Cross-border cooperation between festival organizers, musicians, craftsmen and local communities will be promoted. The project title reflects the interplay of similarities and differences between Latvian and Estonian traditions – from folk music and crafts to language and customs. This diversity is a source of inspiration that promotes mutual understanding and a sense of belonging in the border region.
These activities improve the quality of public cultural events, promote sustainable cultural practices, community engagement and regional identity.
The project "Same, same, but different – Latvian and Estonian contemporary cultural heritage" (No. EE-LV00245) is implemented with the support of the Interreg VI-A Estonia-Latvia Program 2021-2027. The project implementation period is from July 2025 to December 2026. The project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund with EUR 70,000 (80% of the total budget). The project is carried out with partner Valmiermuiža Association of Culture.
